Pertamina president director crowned world's 16th most powerful woman

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Fortune Magazine named President Director of Indonesian state oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, as the 16th most powerful woman in the world in 2020.

According to Fortune, Widyawati is among the 50 women executives of leading global-scale companies capable of surviving and rising during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The most powerful women are mostly from companies engaged in the mining, steel, oil and gas sectors as well as from rapidly growing, most innovative, and highly valued start-up companies.

As a CEO of state-owned energy company in Indonesia, Widyawati is responsible for supervising the company, clocking an annual income of over US$54.6 billion and employing nearly 32 thousand workers worldwide.

Born in the West Java city of Tasikmalaya on December 25, 1967, Widyawati was appointed to the post of president director of Pertamina in 2018, replacing her predecessor dismissed as part of the company's restructuring process.

The company’s shareholders entrusted her with transforming businesses of the company, as its subsidiaries, in two years’ time.

The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted Pertamina to scale down its oil production target in the wake of low demand and slash costs and capital expenditures.
